About
Matt has proven himself to be an excellent attorney over the years. In law school, he dedicated his elective courses to criminal defense and received an award and scholarship after receiving the highest grade in his entire law school class for legal writing. He earned a spot on his law school’s moot court team and also completed internships with the Office of the State Public Defender, the Portage County District Attorney’s Office and with the Portage County Circuit Court Judges.
After passing the Wisconsin bar examination in 2008, Matt began his career at a small firm in the Appleton area, where he worked exclusively on criminal and drunk driving cases. After developing a fondness for the complexity of Drunk Driving cases and attending the Wisconsin Annual Drunk Driving Defense Seminar, where he watched Dennis Melowski teach Wisconsin attorneys how to defend OWI cases, Matt dedicated his career to drunk driving defense and opened one of three law firms in Wisconsin solely dedicated to OWI defense (Melowski & Singh, LLC being one of the remaining two). Matt also began attending other national seminars and became certified in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the approved standardized field sobriety test training curriculum (the same training course that law enforcement officers are trained in nationwide). He is the only member of our firm with this credential. In addition, Matt is also admitted to the National College for DUI Defense, the only professional organization in the country devoted to drunk driving defense as a specialty practice area.
Matt quickly developed a reputation in the legal community for effective, aggressive, and innovative DUI representation, with numerous favorable outcomes for his clients. Always keeping an eye out for top talent, Melowski & Singh soon invited Matt to become a part of their team and he has been an outstanding addition to the firm since 2012. In fact, from 2013 until the present, Matt has consistently been recognized as a Rising Star in DUI defense in an annual list of the State's top attorneys published by Thomson Reuters, has obtained over sixty amendments of OWI/PAC charges for clients and secured not guilty verdicts in multiple trials. Many of the results can be found on our Real Results Tracker. Matt also now teaches at the seminars he once attended with Attorney Melowski.
When not practicing law, Matt, a native of Canada, enjoys spending time with his children, coaching youth hockey, and playing hockey in the winter and rugby in the summer.
