A car accident can happen at any time for a variety of different reasons. In some situations, a person could be involved in a relatively minor accident and be completely unaware. For example, some people could mistake a collision for a large pothole in the road. Unfortunately, a Wisconsin man was recently arrested on drunk driving charges following an allegation of a hit-and-run accident.
Police were called to the scene of a Wisconsin tavern in early January due to reports of a hit-and-run accident. When they arrived at the scene, witnesses pointed out the driver they claim was involved. Reports indicate that police followed the indicated vehicle before arresting the 42-year-old male driver. Details of the accident that prompted police contact are unclear.
The man allegedly informed police that he had consumed three beers. Police say that he failed a field sobriety test, and a preliminary breath test indicated that he was over the legal limit. Media reports indicate that this is the man's latest of several DUI-related arrests; however, the first charge came over 25 years ago, and the last was over 10 years ago. If convicted, he could spend up 15 years in jail and face a significant fine.
Drunk driving charges are always serious. Since this man has been previously convicted, the ramifications of conviction are even higher. As a result, he may choose to hire an attorney in Wisconsin who has experience with such cases. By doing so, he will likely be better prepared to make decisions about his case.
