Fatal Pedestrian Accident Leaves 1 Accused of Drunk Driving

|

Being involved in a fatal motor vehicle accident can be a harrowing experience. Those who survive the crash may have to live with the memory of it throughout the remainder of life, which can be challenging enough on its own. Unfortunately, a man has been accused of drunk driving following a recent fatal collision in which he struck and killed a pedestrian in Wisconsin.

The incident is said to have occurred on a recent Monday at around 9 p.m. when authorities received reports of a pedestrian-related collision. Upon arriving at the scene, police claim to have found a man laying in the road with severe injuries. He was rushed to a medical facility for treatment soon thereafter, but he was unfortunately pronounced dead just over an hour later.

Law enforcement agents advised that the driver of the vehicle that struck the man remained at the scene of the crash. While questioning the man, police claim to have found an open container of alcohol within his vehicle. They also assert that a blood test indicated his blood alcohol content to be .308, and he was taken into custody on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

The penalties for a conviction for drunk driving can be serious and may only increase in severity if an accident occurs, especially one resulting in death. Those who face similar charges may find it advisable to speak with a defense attorney as soon as possible. An attorney can help a client in Wisconsin gain a better understanding of the consequences he or she may face and assist in forming a strong defense. If a conviction cannot be avoided, an attorney can assist in pursuing a lesser sentence during court proceedings.
