Wisconsin Man Arrested on Suspicion of Drunk Driving

|

When authorities receive reports of a possibly intoxicated driver in the area, they are obligated to further investigate the matter. Should the vehicle in question be unoccupied, they may have the task of attempting to locate and identify its driver. A 45-year-old man in Wisconsin is now facing his seventh offense for drunk driving after allegedly crashing his car and walking away from the scene.

Law enforcement agents say they received reports of a possible drunk driver at around 8:30 p.m. on a recent Thursday night. According to reports, witnesses informed police that a man had crashed his car and then proceeded to walk away from the scene. Police claim they were able to locate a man matching the description given by the witness shortly thereafter, and they assert that he was exhibiting signs of impairment.

Although police say the man allegedly admitted to being under the influence of alcohol, they also assert that he claimed another person was driving the vehicle at the time. After a breath test allegedly indicated his blood alcohol content to be well over the legal limit, he was arrested on suspicion of impairment. According to reports, he has six previous DUI offenses on record and he could be facing as many as 12 years behind bars should a conviction be obtained.

Without the necessary legal experience, those who face felony drunk driving charges might not be fully aware of their rights and how best to approach the situation. Fortunately, there are attorneys that can help a person in Wisconsin gain a better understanding of what to expect from the process and assist in making informed decisions about his or her case. An attorney can work toward protecting a client's legal rights and assist in pursuing the most favorable outcome achievable during court proceedings.
